We're mid week in Los Santos and Vapid have announced the release of a new vehicle from there utility line-up, the Vapid Slamtruck. Available from the 21/01/2021 at Southern San Andreas Super Autos for $1,310,000.
Looking back at the Slamvan you can certainly see where the designers got there inspiration, It very much continues the brand with the low and wide feel.
The Big slated grill, circular nose and wide smile, all seem to be borrowed from it's smaller brother. However the Slamtruck is much bigger with big flared wheel arches that have steps for climbing into the cabin. A huge hood that distinctively stands out, bulging while sitting proud up front.
The cabs quite spacious with room up front for two, while the ramped back would make the perfect place for transporting vehicles (More on that later).
Performance wise it's not great you'd do better measuring the breaking distance in kilometers, the 0-60 time with a calendar, and the handling lacks a certain finesse even the AI has trouble getting it into the garage.
The Slamtruck suffers with extreme under-steer and then excessive over-steer. It's not particularly fun to drive however if you're up for the challenge I'm sure you could get it to hold a good drift. This is however a utility vehicle and not a track racer so all of that can sort of be forgiven, well it could if it could tow.
You see it comes with this spacious area on the back for lugging vehicles around however, any vehicle drive or placed on the back isn't secured so they often slide around and fall off. As standard it's also equipped with hydraulics to lower the rear so you can drive a car on, although they seem to be a bit buggy at least on PC.
Hydralics cant be activated by holding 'X' (PC or Playstation), 'A' (Xbox) and then move the on the left analogue stick up or down (Playstation, Xbox) or shift/control (PC)
Due to a recent spate of accidents involving this model, Vapid wants to remind any potential buyers that a common side effect of driving the Slamtruck is the constant stream of assholes attempting to clear your ramp on the freeway. See one coming? For the love of god, duck.
The Drag Strip
That's right! What better way to test it then to send it hurtling down runway three of Los Santos international. The usual rules apply the vehicle must start at a complete stand still and will be timed using the usual markers.
I always think it's a good idea to see the difference between the standard vehicle and a fully tuned one, so I've put I've put the two head to head.
Given that's this is the largest vehicle I've currently sent down the drag strip at 00:21.288, it's well a time. I don't know if it's good or not, other vehicles rarely get over 10 seconds but its a truck. I'll do some more runs in larger vehicles and post a score board at some point.
The Test Track
After it went down the drag strip I thought it would be interesting to send it around our circuit. It's only once you try and take a utility vehicle around our test track you actually realise how tight the circuit is. This was probably one of my least fun activities I've done since starting this site, but in the name of science.
As predicted it was a pretty poor attempt, there was one or two corners that were particularly tight, but then the fact that the AI struggles to get it in the CEO office garage makes me feel a bit better. The usual test track rules apply, I do three laps consecutively and take the best lap time.
After Market Parts
The Vapid Slamtruck is not short on modifications, the styling options are quite vast and some of the liveries really change the feel of the truck. It's quite a good looking vehicle as it is and with the right liveries and modifications it could fit in well at car meets and for roleplaying.

Final Words
Throughout this article I've had a lot of thoughts about the Slamtruck and what I really think about it. At first I was thinking what a waste of $1.3mil. I mean it's a tow truck that can't reliably tow. I faced several issue with getting the hydraulics working as they keep bugging out. It's slow, it handles really badly and it's got the breaking distance of a cruise liner. Looking at social media you all seem to agree. However I had a bit of a change of heart, there's big a part of GTA that gets forgotten. You'll read about people complaining about griefers, grinders or try hards. Those three groups seem to rule the air waves with any mention of GTA but theres another group and it's at the very foundation of GTA, something I sometimes think that even Rockstar forgets about.
GTA is the ultimate fooling around game, some of my most memorable times on this game are when I'm not working towards something. When a few friends just get online and mess around, not really caring what anyone else is up to but just to enjoy the world. Little things that we do that take up quite a bit of time like the time I spent a good 2 hours trying to get 3 motorbikes on the top of the half pipe or when we were trying to land a plane on a moving Terrorbyte. My betting would be that anyone who has played Grand Theft Auto Online at some point has had a similar experience.
Which brings me nicely back to the Slamtruck, I imagine there are hours of fun to be had messing around with this thing. If you've got a few friends online pull it out of the garage and see what you can come up with. If you find something particularly fun to do, record it, tweet us @CoordGaming and I'll post it on the bottom of this article.
Now with that being said, don't buy it if you're looking for a tool to transport vehicles, it's useless as a tow truck.
